Just to let you know where we are at and what has been happening.
As you know we have had serious stability issues recently. A great deal of this has been down to spammers/hackers who have been flooding the site with attempted logins. This has caused memory shortages which caused the database to crash (lots). All that has been coincided with my summer holidays, I have been staying in a wooden shack on the coast, that doesn't get a proper mobile phone signal let alone broadband or wifi.
So I am now off holidays and working on fixing things whilst doing a proper earning money job at the same time. As a result I will be taking things slowly.
Here is how things stand at the moment:
- More RAM added to the server.
- Base set posting is now ENABLED again
- Posting of RPG adverts has been DISABLED. This is under review, but on the 25th of August our anti-spam service stopped over 26,000 spam posts, all trying to post "RPG Adverts".
- Database settings have been modified.
- Various other updates.
I am still not sure if this will do it. Whilst our anti-spam service (mollom we love you) stopped 26,000 spam attempts the other day, that is only the spammers who actually were able to log on. We were hit with more that 290,000 logon attempts. That is more than 3 a second. We do not run Hollow Art on particularly impressive hardware and the scale of what happening is saturating the server. Hopefully this and some other coming soon changes will help rectify this situation.
As we find out more we will let you all know. Thank you for your patience and support.
